Tomeka Reid invites Sofia Jernberg
This event has already taken place.USA, Sweden
Tomeka Reid – cello
Sofia Jernberg – voice
The cello is still considered a "miscellaneous instrument" in jazz. Thanks to instrumentalists like Tomeka Reid, who is also here with her own ensemble and who already won the Downbeat Critics Poll in 2022 - in the above-mentioned category – this is changing slowly but surely. Her invitation here goes out to vocalist Sofia Jernberg, whose unique vocal art is influenced both by the musical traditions of her motherland Ethiopia and by her jazz and new music composition studies in her adopted home of Sweden. Their "Meditations for Voice and Cello" were one of the few positive results of the pandemic in 2021 – and can be heard here in new, grown, and ever growing form.
