Commission from Jazzfestival Saalfelden for Mona Matbou Riahi
From the age of 17, Iranian clarinetist Mona Matbou Riahi has called Vienna “her playground, where she blossoms as a performer, composer and improviser.” With the premiere of her project “Nebulift” in this year’s opening concert, she will transform Saalfelden’s congress hall into a “spacey, atmospheric, experimental, overall dreamy” sound-space. Together with Dorian Concept, bassist Manu Mayr and Lou Zon on visuals, she wants to react “without rules, to each other and with each other” – in a continuous set that unfolds carefully across composed parts and improvisations, with “different textures and stations, like floating on lucid dreamscapes”.
