Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity with Emmeluth, Møster & Hegdal
Norway, Sweden, Denmark
Petter Eldh - acoustic bass
André Roligheten - saxophone
Gard Nilssen - drums
Signe Emmeluth - saxophone
Kjetil Møster – saxophone
Eirik Hegdal – saxophone
They are making waves, elastic – with a band name reminiscent of Albert Ayler's "Spiritual Unity" and a sound that catapults the powerful sounds of ESP's lofty free folk across sixty years into the here and now. This year, "one of the best trios in Europe" (The Wire) is coming as a quintet. Drummer Gard Nilssen, saxophonist André Roligheten and bassist Petter Eldh are expanding their unit, which has grown closer and tighter over the last ten years, to include three more saxophone superstars: Signe Emmeluth, a Dane in Oslo, known from her own quartet Amoeba or as a soloist with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, and the Norwegians Kjetil Møster (The Core, Aunt!) and Eirik Hegdal (Superless, Ståle Storløkken). The sensation of last summer’s Kongsberg Jazz Festival sounds just as hot in winter.
