“Stupendous” is just one of the adjectives jazz journalists use to describe Laura Jurd, her trumpet playing and her compositions. Born in Hampshire in 1990, she won the prestigious “Dankworth Prize for Composition” at just 19 (and 21!) and in the years that followed became one of the figureheads of UK jazz, especially as an instrumentalist, but also with her quartet Dinosaur. After a joint excursion with a “dream-cohort of improvisers with groove music at its heart” for her Austrian debut in the summer of 2023, she now happily returns to the mountains with the same line-up. They are “influenced by the likes of 70s Miles and British alt-rock and sure never to sound the same way twice”, which might also explain the band name “Never Again”.
