Jazzfestival Saalfelden - concerts already on 21 August 2019

It all began on this beautiful square - the first festival entitled ‘3 Days of Jazz’ was held here from 19 to 21 May 1978.

A dozen or so young people worked flat out to transform the farm into a festival site. Around 800 paying guests from all over the country enjoyed the concerts over the three days. We are now returning there for the 40th anniversary: with Wolfgang Puschnig, who performed there with the Vienna Art Orchestra in 1978, and the young Viennese Sketchbook Quartet.Arch. DI Wolfgang Hartl, Chairman of the Centre for Contemporary Music Association, which is responsible for programming the festival, is enthusiastic: ‘I can still remember the Ranch concerts back then. The fact that we are returning to the place where it all began this year for the 40th anniversary makes me particularly happy and will probably also give some others a tingling sensation in their stomachs.’

The concerts will take place on 21 August 2019, the evening before the official start of the festival:

20:00 Sketchbook Quartet

  • ‘When was the last Time?’
  • Austria
  • Leonhard Skorupa - saxophone, clarinet, synth, samples
  • Andi Tausch - guitar
  • Daniel Moser - bass clarinet, FX
  • Konstantin Kräutler - drums

The Sketchbook Quartet is characterised by an enormously fresh, powerful and unmistakable band sound. Although rooted in the jazz tradition, the foursome does not shy away from incorporating influences from a wide variety of styles into their compositions. Chamber jazz meets prog rock - young, fresh and with great humour.
